At Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service we are committed to making the communities we serve safer, and the best way to do this is preventing incidents from happening in the first place. Home Safety Checks are a great way to do this as they are a proven way of reducing fires, fire-related deaths and fire-related injuries.
Most people are able to assess the risks in their home themselves and fit their own smoke alarms; the information on our ' Safety in Your Home ' page can help and further help with this can be sought by calling our advice line on Freephone 0800 022 3235.
However, if you feel you are unable to assess the risks in your own home, or one of your friends, family or neighbours is potentially vulnerable to fire, we may be able to organise a home visit. These take around 40 minutes and involve firefighters, or members of our Community Safety team, visiting your home to offer advice on how to make your home safer and what to do if you're trapped by fire. They will also fit free smoke alarms if required.
If you, or somebody you know, would like to request a Home Safety Check, please fill out the form below.
We are pleased to announce that in 2018, our Home Safety Checks will be transitioning into Safe and Well visits. This means that we will not only be checking fire safety in the home, but we will also be talking to you about things including smoking, falls prevention, alcohol, bowel cancer screening, and warmer homes. This is what will be called a Safe and Well visit.
Please be aware that during this transition period, some people may receive a Home Safety Check, while others may receive a Safe and Well Visit. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding while we work with our crews to implement Safe and Well, before a Service-wide launch in the coming months.
