Vision and Values

Our vision as the city and county fire and rescue service is to put safety at the heart of the community and make Nottingham and Nottinghamshire a safer place to live, work and visit. A lot of our work is therefore focused on preventing accidents and injuries through education and safety intervention, as well as responding to emergencies whenever needed.

To ensure this vision is realised and that we continue to make our communities safer, the Service has three key priorities in place: delivering a high quality service, ensuring we have an engaged and motivated workforce, and having strong governance and financial stability. By focusing on these three priorities the Service, and the staff that work for us, can be both sustainable and effective.  We also have an Integrated Risk Management Plan (IRMP) in place that runs until 2019 – which links into the three priorities and ensures we continue on the right track.

In addition to the plan and our core priorities, the Service has four values that run throughout everything we do. These are:

  • Being open to change and understanding the need to improve - this means we open ourselves up to new ideas and become a more sustainable and stable organisation, ready for the future.
  • Being professional in all that we do by being the best we can be - this is done by behaving with integrity and taking personal responsibility for our behavior and decisions.
  • Valuing and respecting others - by treating our staff, our community and our service users with respect and consideration, we become a more customer-focused and inclusive organisation.
  • Working as one team to create safer communities.

The Equality Act 2010 also means that the Service has a legal duty to promote equality. The duty covers age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief and sexual orientation. We are committed to providing services for all the people of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire and use a variety of different ways to make sure our services are accessible.

By bringing together all of the above plans, priorities, values and duties, the Service hopes to create a safe Nottinghamshire for all and will continue working hard to achieve this.
