Re: Transfer of FPS Pension Administrator Service
In my capacity as Fire Pension Scheme Manager, I wish to inform you of the transfer of service of Pension Administration for all Fire Pension Schemes in respect of Nottinghamshire and City of Nottingham Fire Authority.
This will be effective from
1 December 2020 and applies to the formal Pension Administration in respect of:
- Active members (ie serving Firefighters currently paying into an FPS scheme)
- Deferred members (ie Firefighters who have either resigned from NFRS or opted out of FPS prior to release of pension benefits)
- Pensioners (ie members already in receipt of an age-related or Ill Health pension)
The service currently provided by Leicestershire County Council Pension team (LCC) will continue until the above
LCC made the strategic decision to concentrate its’ resources on the provision of Local Government pension administration and gave NFRS notice that it would not be seeking renewal of its FPS contract on expiry.
I am grateful to LCC for the exceptional service the team has provided over many years and for the level of work the LCC team has undertaken in the past months in working with the Nottinghamshire Local Fire Pension Board and the new Administrator in ensuring a seamless transfer of service.
FPS administration will be provided by
West Yorkshire Pension Fund (WYPF) from 1 December 2020.
WYPF has provided an FPS Administration service for over 30 years and following the commencement of the NFRS contract will provide this service to 19 Fire Authorities. Members of the WYPF team have worked closely with government and other national FPS stakeholders for many years and currently provide technical input to the national Scheme Advisory Board, including in relation to government’s proposals on the Sargeant / McLoud Transitional Pension Protection remedy.
Prior to the formal transfer of services to WYPF, numerous parallel runs of pension data processing and User Assured Testing of systems has been undertaken by LCC & WYPF to ensure a seamless handover of the service.
I also wish to clarify and assure you that a change in Pension Administrator has no impact whatsoever on the level of pension you accrue; the level of contribution you pay nor how benefits are calculated.
FPS schemes are national schemes, designed by government and passed through Parliament as Statutory Instruments – a change in Administrator has no impact on the national scheme regulations in any way.
For existing Pensioner members, the monthly payment of pensions will remain with NFRS Payroll department and you will continue to be paid and receive correspondence in the usual way and timescales.
In the coming months there will be further communications issued to update you on developments & improvements in how you might be able to access information. This will include a continuation of the Pension Roadshows (subject to any Covid-related adjustments) held annually, with participation from members of the Local Fire Pension Board and WYPF team members.
In the meantime, from 1 December 2020 contact details for WYPF are detailed below:
