The Duke of Edinburgh Firefighter Programme is a 13-week course delivered by Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service at one of the Service's fire stations. The course contributes towards a Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Service Award and gives young people the opportunity to learn about the fire and rescue service and undertake practical activities that replicate the training that firefighters go through.
The course consists of 20 guided learning hours and eight hours of self-study. As well as learning a variety of new skills, gaining a certificate and carrying out realistic firefighter-style training, participants also make friends for life.
