Rowbotham Guilty Verdict

Thursday 21 January 2010

Please find below a statement by Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service in response to the verdict and sentencing of William Rowbotham today.

Group Manager Ian Taylor said: “We support the verdict and sentence given today. This sends a clear message to people of the devastating consequences of deliberately starting a fire where lives may be taken or put at risk. This tragic incident shows how a situation can quickly escalate, with life changing consequences for everyone involved.

“Throughout the investigation we have worked closely with the police and local community, and would like to thank them, along with Mrs Southern’s family, for their continued support and hard work which has helped to bring a dangerous arsonist to face the consequences of his actions.

“We will continue to work alongside the police and other partner agencies to strive to make our communities safer.”
