Behind the scenes
To most people, firefighters are the public ‘face’ of the Fire and Rescue Service. But behind the scenes we have a highly dedicated team of staff using their knowledge and skills to support the work of our firefighters and to keep services running smoothly in the background.
This important group of people cover a wide range of roles that you would find in many organisations, such as finance, ICT, human resources, supplies management, communications, performance monitoring and administration.
Then there are staff with roles which are relevant to our particular business, such as Fire Control Operators who take the 999 emergency calls, trainers who make sure staff have the skills to do their jobs, mapping experts who draw detailed plans of buildings our firefighters may be called to and engineers who keep our vehicles on the road. And there are many more besides these.
This section gives you an insight into just some of the varied roles performed by the team at Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service.
