Su Supports Driving Challenge
Television actress Su Pollard has become the latest celebrity to throw her support behind the Ladies’ Driving Challenge, a fantastic fundraising event hosted by Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service on behalf of The Fire Fighters Charity.
The event at Newark Showground on Sunday 12 September, will see ladies of all ages and abilities being given the chance to drive a range of unusual and challenging vehicles, such as diggers, HGVs and, of course, fire engines!
In return they’ll be asked to pay a £10 registration fee, and raise £90 in sponsorship for the charity. Gift vouchers for the day are also available, making it an ideal birthday, anniversary or ‘girls’ day out’ present.
The day will consist of morning and afternoon sessions, each with a number of exciting ‘zones’ for participants to visit. These include an emergency services zone, plant vehicles including mini-diggers and JCBs, a heavy goods vehicle and trailer and the challenge of loading pallets onto a truck! There will also be a number of static displays by organisations such as the Army and Police, and refreshments will be available.
Anyone interested in firefighting as a career will also be able to try their hand at some of the fitness tests which form part of the NFRS selection process.
Although Su, who is originally from Nottinghamshire, will be unable to attend on the day she is fully supportive of the event and thinks it offers ladies a fantastic opportunity to drive some weird and wonderful vehicles, whilst raising money to support injured firefighters.
To register or to find out more contact Lea-Anne Abbiss on 0115 967 5896 or visit www.firefighterscharity.org.uk. You can also turn up and register on the day.
