Fire Authority agrees consultation
The Nottinghamshire and City of Nottingham Fire Authority has today (24 June) agreed to consult formally with staff, partner organisations and the public about changes to frontline services across the county.
Consultation will begin by the end of July and will last for a minimum of 12 weeks. The results will be reported back to the Fire Authority before any changes are implemented.
Chief Fire Officer Frank Swann published a Fire Cover Review earlier this year and put forward three possible options for taking its findings forward. He also gave his professional recommendation of the option that should be consulted upon. Members agreed to begin consultation on this option at today’s meeting, but agreed an amendment to the option which removed a proposal to close Collingham Fire Station.
“The Fire Authority has taken on board the professional advice of the Chief Fire Officer, and now it wants to find out what the public thinks of the changes that could be made to its fire and rescue service,” said Cllr Darrell Pulk, Chair of the Nottinghamshire and City of Nottingham Fire Authority.
“We will be launching consultation very shortly and will be encouraging members of the public, staff and partners in other organisations to give us their views of the proposals.”
At today’s meeting Members also agreed to receive business cases for two possible options for the future delivery of the Fire Control service in Nottinghamshire.
These are to either upgrade the current system or replace it with a brand new mobilising system, or to go into partnership with other fire and rescue authorities.
The two options were Chief Fire Officer Frank Swann’s recommendations out of a possible five options that could be developed into more detailed business cases for further consideration.
A further report on the two options will be presented to a future meeting of the Fire Authority once the business cases have been drawn up.
