Fun and learning for students
Year 9 and 10 Students from Outwood Academy Valley, Worksop will be learning all about working for the Fire and Rescue Service during their visit to Worksop Fire Station this week.
The BTEC Public Services students will receive an introduction to working in a Uniformed Public Service. They will learn the importance of team work and communication by completing a variety of practical exercises, including a rescue scenario. Students will be divided into groups and awarded points for their ability, enthusiasm and communication skills. They will also be awarded points for their team working. The Team with the highest score will receive a prize.
Community Safety Advocate Robyn Ellis, who has organised the Challenge, said: “We’re keen to demonstrate the life-saving work that our crews do within the community. Team Challenge is a resource that has been developed specifically to allow young people to benefit from a hands-on experience of the work of our firefighters.
“The young people attending this event may well be our firefighters of the future. The practical exercises they will complete will give them some idea of the situations our crews face daily, from advising on fire safety in the home to carrying out rescues in challenging conditions. We want to show the young people the many benefits of working for their local Fire and Rescue Service.”
The students will be at the station tomorrow (Friday) and next Tuesday.
